Rangers set sights on late goal chances against Manchester United
Rangers are not expecting an easy ride against an under-par Manchester United in the Champions League at Ibrox on Wednesday. While United have been short of their best, particularly in the Premier League, this season the Rangers defender Richard Foster believes facing Sir Alex Ferguson's men will still prove tough. "I think any weakness in United is slightly exaggerated but I suppose we can look at the fact they have lost a few late goals this season," Foster said. "We might be able to think we can nick one towards the end if their concentration slips but, with players like Wayne Rooney in their team, it is hard to say they are not performing well. "Every game at Rangers is difficult because you are expected to win. I think maybe the fans will temper that expectation a wee bit on Wednesday and there will be a little less pressure." Rangers still harbour a glimmer of hope that they can progress to the last 16 butthat means some form of reward will almost certainly have to be taken from their meeting with United. "If we are to get second place in the group, then Wednesday is massive for us," said Foster. "We need to win and see where that leaves us for the last one against Bursaspor in Turkey." Rangers recovered from falling a goal behind for the sixth time in the Scottish Premier League this season at Kilmarnock yesterday, Kenny Miller's hat-trick securing a 3-2 win. His contribution seemed even more valuable when Celtic conceded a last-minute goal and drew 1-1 with Dundee United later in the afternoon. "It is not a surprise that Rangers keep fighting back," Foster said. "I see it every day in training – these guys are winners. They hate to lose even in matches at training. There is an unbelievable will to win running through this group of players. "They have a terrific mentality which makes them keep going right to the end of games or haul themselves back into matches when they are behind. They will do what it takes to win the game. It was not all that pretty at Kilmarnock, they were the better side but we came away with the three points. When you have someone like Kenny in this form, you always have a chance." Miller, well on course for the most prolific season of his career, has scored 18 goals for Rangers in all competitions already.
