SPL round-up: Silva strikes gold as Kilmarnock break Hearts

David Silva and Alexei Eremenko both scored within seven second-half minutes as Kilmarnock ended Hearts' eight-match unbeaten run at Tynecastle with a 2-0 victory in the Scottish Premier League. Silva struck after 50 minutes and Eremenko, added a quick-fire second goal to leave Hearts, who had turned in a dominant first‑half display, dismayed. Killie had been the most recent team to visit Tynecastle and claim an SPL win and again returned to Ayrshire with victory, despite Eremenko being sent off for a high tackle on David Templeton on 71 minutes . In retaliation, Marius Zaliukas grabbed the Killie forward by the throat and Templeton pushed Eremenko. Both Hearts players were cautioned during a lengthy delay in play as Steven Mclean discussed the incident with his assistant and the fourth official. Calum Elliot was replaced by Gary Glen as the Hearts manager, Jim Jefferies, looked for fresh legs up front before Rui Miguel came on for Killie in place of William Gros. A curling free-kick from Jamie Hamill went narrowly wide as Hearts failed to make their extra man pay and suffered their seventh SPL loss of the season. Inverness moved back into the top half of the table with an emphatic 3-0 win over Motherwell . Shane Sutherland, a product of the youth system at Inverness, opened the scoring after 18 minutes, and captain Richie Foran added their second goal with 64 minutes played. Motherwell came close to a response from the substitute Chris Humphrey, only for the winger to be thwarted first by a wonderful save from Ryan Esson and then by Ross Tokely, who blocked his follow-up effort on the line. With the Steelmen committing more players forward, Lee Cox had the chance to finish the game as a contest, but Darren Randolph saved well. Terry Butcher introduced on-loan Burnley man Alex MacDonald into the action as the game entered its final quarter and it was to prove an inspired change. Within 30 seconds of coming on in the 73rd minute, the striker had his name on the scoresheet. Foran's cross was misjudged by Gavin Gunning and the Scotland Under-21 forward had the simplest of tasks to finish from close range. Although Jamie Murphy had a shot pushed on to the crossbar by Esson, Caley Thistle comfortably held 'Well at arms length to secure their fourth league triumph at home this season. St Johnstone extended their unbeaten home record to eight games in all competitions with a hard‑fought 1-1 draw against a revitalised Hibernian . Derek McInnes's men went into the game unbeaten in six league games at McDiarmid Park but faced a new-look Hibs side who had five wins in a row. An own goal by Richie Towell gave the home side the lead early in the second half but David Wotherspoon levelled with 11 minutes remaining. Moments later, Hibs were lucky not to be 2-0 behind, after another Peter MacDonald effort, this time a half-volley from the 18-yard line, had Mark Brown scrambling low to his left as it squeezed past the post. That acted as a wake-up call for Hibs, who drew level on 80 minutes. Callum Booth and Matthew Thornhill were replaced by Lewis Stevenson and Darryl Duffy, and it was a skewed shot by the latter from the edge of the box that found Wotherspoon at the back post and he crashed the ball in off the bar.
