Twenty Twelve out of the starting blocks with 341,000 viewers

NOT A GOLD MEDAL RATINGS WINNER BUT PROBABLY A BRONZE Twenty Twelve, BBC4, 10pm – the sitcom about the preparations for the London 2012 Olympics starring Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes began with 341,000 viewers, a 1.75% share of the audience, with another 8,000 on the BBC HD channel at 10.30pm. The topical comedy beat the final episode of Sky Living's six-part supernatural drama Bedlam , which finished with 257,000 viewers between 10pm and 11pm. PANORAMIC TAKE ON THE NEWS OF THE WORLD Panorama, BBC1, 8.30pm – the BBC1 current affairs show's investigation into the News International paper, which implicated a sixth journalist in illegal newsgathering , was watched by 2.577 million viewers, a 10.2% share of the audience between 8.30pm and 9pm. Panorama beat BBC2's Raymond Blanc's Kitchen Secrets, watched by 2.11 million viewers (8.3%), also between 8.30pm and 9pm, and Channel 4's Dispatches: Britain's Secret Fat Cats, watched by 1 million viewers on Channel 4 with another 100,000 on Channel 4 +1. The slot was predictably won by ITV1's Coronation Street, which had 9.5 million viewers (37.4%) between 8.30pm and 9pm. It was the second instalment of the soap of the night, with another 9.5 million (40.2%) tuning in between 7.30pm and 8pm, beating the return of BBC1 science show Bang Goes the Theory, which had 3.869 million viewers, a 16.5% share. DEAD WOKEN. AGAIN Waking the Dead, BBC1, 9pm – the concluding episode of the first two-parter of the final series averaged 5.907 million viewers, a 23.5% share, between 9pm and 10pm. It was marginally up on the 5.872 million who saw the first part on Sunday . The Trevor Eve crime drama had the better of ITV1's Law & Order:UK, which had 4.1 million viewers, a 16.2% share, also between 9pm and 10pm. NOT SO SECRET OVERNIGHTS The Secret War on Terror, BBC2, 9pm – Peter Taylor's two-part documentary about the intelligence war against al-Qaida began with 1.1 million viewers, a 4.5% share of the audience between 9pm and 10pm. One Born Every Minute, at the same time on Channel 4, had 2.568 million viewers, a 10.2% share, with another 382,000 on Channel 4 +1. Channel 5's Jason Statham film repeat Chaos averaged 958,000 viewers, a 4.7% share between 9pm and 11.15pm. All ratings are Barb overnight figures, including live and same day timeshifted (recorded) viewing, but excluding on demand, +1 or other – unless otherwise stated.
