Protests across UK over closure of BBC 6 Music

Campaigners opposed to a multimillion pound programme of BBC cuts, including the closure of 6 Music and the Asian Network, are planning demonstrations outside the corporation's offices in seven cities today. They will mark the end of the BBC Trust's three month public consultation on the proposed cuts by gathering at 1pm with musical instruments, whistles and party hooters outside offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow. Demonstrators at the trust's London offices on Portland Street will hand in a petition signed by 80,000 people.
