TV ratings: Tonight's the Night returns to beat Magic Numbers
The return of BBC1's Tonight's the Night took the honours in its ratings battle with the new ITV1 quiz show Magic Numbers, with more than 4 million viewers on Saturday 17 July. The second series of Tonight's the Night, in which John Barrowman helps make viewers' dreams come true, began with 4.150 million viewers, a 21.1% share, between 8pm and 8.50pm, according to unofficial overnight figures. Magic Numbers, in which a viewer at home is given a chance to play for up to £250,000, began with 2.653 million, 13.4% of the audience, between 8pm and 9pm. It was one of three new ITV1 series on Saturday. Another new quiz, Odd One In, hosted by Bradley Walsh, began with 2.862 million, a 15.3% share, between 7.15pm and 8pm, while 30 Years of An Audience With ... debuted with 3.046 million viewers, 14.8% of the audience. BBC2 had two film premieres – the Michael Caine movie Is Anybody There? averaged 1.776 million, a 9.1% share, between 8pm and 9.30pm, while David Cronenburg's Eastern Promises had 786,000 viewers, 6.3% of the audience, between 10pm and 11.40pm.
