John Terry adds to England's injury worries ahead of France friendly

John Terry will miss England's friendly with France on Wednesday through injury, according to the Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti. The former England captain missed his club side's 3-0 defeat to Sunderland with a nerve problem that is leading to pain in a gluteal muscle and hamstring. After the game Ancelotti said the defender would not be fit to play at Wembley, although he hopes to have him back for next Saturday's trip to Birmingham. "Terry trained yesterday but, at the end of the training session, he had pain on his nerve in his hamstring and we had the test this morning," Ancelotti said. "He was not able to play today. I don't think he will be able to play for the national team. He is out of the squad. I don't know if he has to report, we will wait to hear from them. But I think he can play the next game. It is an injury, but he can control it. He has controlled it for 12 games. He's doing good prevention, good treatment. Everything will be OK for him." The West Ham United forward Carlton Cole has been called up to the England squad as cover for the friendly after both Andy Carroll and Gabriel Agbonlahor picked up injuries playing for their clubs on Saturday. Carroll's much-heralded first appearance in a senior England squad was confirmed by Fabio Capello on Saturday, but the Newcastle United striker is struggling with a groin problem that surfaced after his side's goalless draw with Fulham. Agbonlahor also picked up a knock during Aston Villa's 2-2 draw with Manchester United and is another doubt for the game against France. With Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe both already out of the squad, and Kevin Davies left out by Capello, the Italian has requested Cole join the England camp as cover with the possibility of being left with only two strikers in Peter Crouch and Cardiff City's Jay Bothroyd. The 27-year-old Cole won the last of his seven caps in the friendly against Egypt in March, and has scored one goal in 16 appearances for West Ham this season. Arsenal's Jack Wilshere is fit to join the squad after Arsène Wenger revealed his half-time substitution of the 18-year-old midfielder was merely tactical in his side's 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park. The Frenchman said: "He is not injured. I wanted a second holding player to win the second balls from the headers and I thought he looked a bit tired today. He will be all right to go with England."
