How The Sun's app overcame obscenity ban
The Sun finally launched its iPhone app yesterday after an embarrassing wait of more than a month following Apple's initial refusal to accept it. It fell foul of the company's anti-obscenity rules because its Page 3 girls were regarded as too rude. But the paper was granted an exemption because "downloading requires customers to confirm that they are 17 or over since the app 'contains age-restricted material'". Hmmm. Does that mean people under 17 should be banned from buying the paper itself? Should it now be a top-shelf publication? Obviously not. As all Sun journalists like to say, theirs is "a family newspaper." Sources: paidContent / The Register
