Who are the banned Fifa executives Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii?

Amos Adamu Amos Adamu is the former director general of the Nigerian National Sports Commission. He used to revel in his position as one of four African voters on the Fifa executive committee as they were considered disproportionately crucial to securing victory for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidders. Now, banned from all footballing activity for three years, he has been deprived of the role that granted him huge power and influence. The former primary school teacher has been on the Fifa executive committee – the holy grail for those who spend their lives ascending through the committees of their home football associations and myriad Fifa committees – since 2006. Now his tenure in that gilded cage is at an end, subject to appeals to Fifa, the court of arbitration for sport and potentially the Swiss courts. It came to a juddering halt last month when a video on the Sunday Times website showed Adamu allegedly telling an undercover reporter posing as a lobbyist working on behalf of the US bid that he wanted to build four football fields for $200,000 each (£125,000) and that the money could be paid to him "directly". When the reporter asked whether the payment would help Adamu make his decision in favour of the US, he responded: "Obviously it will have an effect. Of course it will have an effect ... Because certainly if you are to invest in that, that means you also want the vote." Reynald Temarii Reynald Temarii is the president of the Oceania Football Confederation. A former professional footballer with Nantes and a Tahiti international, Temarii was an adviser to the president of French Polynesia, before becoming minister for sport in the country and taking the presidency of the OFC, and with it a place on Fifa's executive committee, in 2004. He became a Fifa vice-president in 2007, the first time an OFC president had received the honour. He was a Liverpool supporter as a child. On Fifa's profile of the 43-year-old he is asked what his greatest disappointment has been in football, replying: "None. I only have good memories." He surely has one now.
