Warm weather on its way
An unseasonable but welcome respite from October showers is on its way later this week, with temperatures predicted to hit 22C on Friday and remain high on Saturday. Although the south-east will enjoy the best of the mini-Indian summer, Scotland and Wales will also bask in "some very nice autumn weather", according to forecasters. "There is a warm front moving across the country on Friday," said Aisling Creevey, forecaster for MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association. "There will be cloud for a while and some showers but it will be unseasonably warm." She said that the mercury could reach 22C in central London, 18C in the north of England, 16C in Scotland and 21C in Wales. The warm, dry weather should continue into Saturday. "It looks completely dry on Saturday," said Creevey. "We are expecting all this warm air from the continent which should be nice. "There is going to be some mist and fog in the morning – particularly in coastal areas of the north-east of England and eastern Scotland, where it might take some time to clear." Saturday is likely to be less warm than Friday, while temperatures on Sunday are expected to peak at 18C in London and Wales. People in the north east of England and Yorkshire – who have already seen the average rainfall for October – will welcome the clement conditions. In the first few days of the month the area was deluged with heavy rain. The average rain expected in the region in October is between 45mm and 50mm, but Fylingdales, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, has experienced more than 55mm so far.
