Frankie Dettori wins four out of seven at Newmarket's Champions meeting
Frankie Dettori was in outstanding form on the first day of Newmarket's Champions meeting today as he rode a 1,700-1 four-timer from seven booked rides, only one a favourite. The Italian, below, started his sequence on Paul Cole's Argocat, 11-1 for a maiden race, and added wins on Mantoba (8-1) and Modeyra (13-2) before Willing Foe (11-10) brought proceedings to a close, staying on well in the final furlong after travelling smoothly throughout. Mantoba is a possible runner in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf according to Brian Meehan, his trainer, while Modeyra, unraced since a maiden win nearly 12 months ago, could also have foreign targets following her win in the Severals Stakes. Tazeez, the 2008 Cambridgeshire winner, ridden by Richard Hills extended his unbeaten record on the Rowley Mile to three in the day's feature race, the Darley Stakes; Mastery, last year's St Leger winner, ran a promising race given the nine-furlong trip to finish third on his first start since March.
