Paul Scholes did agree to play for England again, claims Fabio Capello

Fabio Capello has revealed that Paul Scholes initially agreed to play for England at the World Cup before changing his mind the following morning. Scholes was approached by Franco Baldini, Capello's assistant, about the possibility of coming out of international retirement prior to the finals in South Africa only for the Manchester United midfielder to decide against the move. Asked about the incident, Capello told ITV Sport: "Franco spoke with him and he decided. In the evening he said 'yes' and in the morning he said 'no'. He said he is too old to play more games and more competitions. He prefers to be OK for Manchester United."
