Karen Elson: The Ghost Who Walks
"Model marries rock star, makes record" is a story that rarely merits further scrutiny. But Elson is no mere pretty face . Before meeting husband Jack White on the set of a White Stripes video shoot, the supermodel was part of a satirical New York cabaret troupe who wrote their own songs. A gothic country aesthetic does run through these 12 murder ballads and dust bowl laments. But the overwhelming impression of The Ghost Who Walks is of a series of covers of Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave's "Where the Wild Roses Grow": beguiling, but a little monotonous.
