Ed Miliband reveals name of new baby
The Labour leader, Ed Miliband, and his partner, Justine Thornton, have called their second child Samuel after his paternal grandfather, it was announced today. Miliband indicated yesterday that he had a name in mind but added in slightly political speak that it was "still being signed off" and would be announced in the coming days. It appeared the negotiations were swiftly concluded since just a day later as the name Samuel Stewart Thornton Miliband was revealed. Miliband and his partner were caught by surprise by the speed with which their 8lb 3oz baby arrived at University College Hospital, a 15-minute drive from their north London home, late on Sunday night. Samuel was the name of Miliband's paternal grandfather, while Stewart is Thornton's father's name. Miliband has previously expressed embarrassment that he failed to register himself as his first son's father on his birth certificate, and said he and Justine will "get round to" marrying at some point. They have six weeks to file documents relating to Samuel's arrival.
