Great Britain's Ben Ainslie in hunt for medal haul at sailing regatta

Britain has 10 chances of medals in the Skandia Sail for Gold regatta, at the site where the 2012 Olympics will be held, with only the medal races to be sailed tomorrow. Two silver medals in the Paralympic classes have already been assured. British sailors could scoop the pool in the Finn class with Giles Scott leading, Ben Ainslie second and Ed Wright in fifth. Scott's lead over Ainslie is 16.4 points while Wright is only 3.9 points further astern. Points in the medal race count double, which means Ainslie could retain his unbeaten record in the class and Wright could overtake Jonathan Lobert of France and Ivan Gaspic of Croatia. In the men's 470s, the bronze medal will be a scrap between Luke Patience with Stuart Bithell, and world champions Nic Asher and Elliot Willis. A similar situation exists in the 49ers between Stevie Morrison with Ben Rhodes, and Chris Draper with Peter Greenhalgh. In the women's 470s, Penny Clark and Katrina Hughes hit the rankings with two seconds today to be in a position to strike gold. Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell had their worst score of the regatta, a third, in the Skuds but came away with the silver medal. John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas scored a silver medal in the Sonar class.
