Simon Jenkins named commentariat of the year at Editorial Intelligence awards
Columnists Simon Jenkins, Christopher Hitchens, Quentin Letts and Daniel Finkelstein were among the winners at the Editorial Intelligence comment awards 2010 earlier today. Jenkins was named commentariat of the year for his columns for the Guardian and the London Evening Standard. Vanity Fair writer Hitchens won the magazine commentator award, while the Daily Mail's Letts won in the best political sketchwriter category and Finkelstein picked up the political commentator prize for his Times columns. The Guardian picked up four awards – for Jenkins, Comment is free (best blog site, jointly with the Observer), and Mark Lawson, who was named best cultural commentator. Including Finkelstein's award, the Times took home three prizes. The paper also won the best comment pages award, while Anatoly Kaletsky was named best financial commentator. The Independent and Evening Standard won two awards. The Independent's Johann Hari was named best environmental commentator, while editor-in-chief Simon Kelner won the chair's choice award.
