Public file 845 Christmas tax returns
Some 845 people filed their tax returns on Christmas Day, with 2,408 others completing the task on Boxing Day, an HM Revenue and Customs spokesman said, reports The Guardian . The number was a 36% increase on the previous year, according to HMRC figures. As many as 3.5m people have already filed their tax returns online this year, ahead of the 31 January deadline. Online filing has grown hugely in popularity over the past 10 years. In 2001 only 38,981 people filed their returns online, a number which in the year to 31 January 2010 increased to 6.4m.
