Ryder Cup 2010: Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer lead Europe in fourballs

Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer will lead off Europe's bid to regain the Ryder Cup from the USA when the fourballs open the competition at Celtic Manor tomorrow morning. Westwood of England, the European No1, and Germany's Kaymer, the US PGA champion, will play Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson from the USA. The pairings and order of the fourballs matches were revealed at the opening ceremony today by Europe's captain, Colin Montgomerie, and his opposite number Corey Pavin. In the second pairing, the Northern Ireland duo Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell will face Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar. Tiger Woods, the world No1, has been left to the third grouping, where he partners Matt Kuchar in a match against the Englishmen Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher. The final fourballs pairing pits England's Luke Donald and Ireland's Padraig Harrington against Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton. Of the opening match, Montgomerie said: "It will be a great game, and the atmosphere on the first tee remarkable. I am delighted Lee Westwood has recovered [from a calf problem] and Martin Kaymer is the most recent major champion." The opening fourballs tee off at 7.45am.
