Prostitution inquiry leads to Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate quitting

A Scottish Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate has stood down after being charged with offences relating to prostitution. Gordon Leslie, an Aberdeen councillor, will not now stand as the Lib Dem candidate for the Aberdeen Donside seat in May's Holyrood election. A spokeswoman for the Scottish Liberal Democrats said Leslie had resigned as the candidate with immediate effect. The 64-year-old was arrested on Monday, and has been charged under the Prostitution (Public Places) (Scotland) Act 2007, and is expected to appear in court next week. Leslie, who was born in Aberdeen and lives in the Bridge of Don area, said he would be making no comment. A force spokesman said: "Grampian police can confirm that a 64-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal regarding five contraventions of the Prostitution (Public Places) (Scotland) Act 2007. He is expected to appear at Aberdeen sheriff Court on 3 March."
