Steve Coppell set to be named new Bristol City manager
Steve Coppell is expected to end his 11-month absence from football by becoming the new manager of Bristol City. The club will, according to reports, present Coppell as Gary Johnson's permanent successor at a press conference tomorrow morning. Coppell has been out of work since resigning as Reading manager in May following the club's failure to make the Championship play-off final. He had been linked with a return to the Madjeski Stadium following the departure of Brendan Rodgers as manager there earlier this season but has instead decided to join City, the seventh different club he has managed and currently 11th in the Championship. Keith Millen has been in charge at Ashton Gate ever since the departure of Johnson last month and oversaw four wins from his seven games, in addition to drawing against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Scunthorpe was his only one. Steve Lansdown, the City chairman, said earlier this week that Millen would "remain in charge for the remainder of the season" but appears now to have decided to put a long-term appointment in place immediately. Coppell spent six seasons at Reading and led them to the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2006.
