From Radiohead to Pendulum: your instant next-level pop promo compilation

1 RATATAT - DRUGS Sometimes it's the simplest ideas that work best. For this creepy, Lynch-style outing, director Carl Burgess trawled stock footage of grinning actors in the Getty archives. 2 JANELLE MONAE - COLD WAR The screen is a close-up of Monáe's face; hard not to compare it to Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U – until suddenly she fluffs a line, shakes her head with frustration, and a single tear rolls down. The lip-sync illusion is shattered. It's an intense, possibly staged moment, but never less than arresting. 3 ERYKAH BADU - WINDOW SEAT This one's literally arresting: Badu was fined for her strip through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, site of JFK's assassination. Like Gaga's cigarette shades or MIA's redheads, it's a video that cuts through the noise to make the news. There's even a backwards version. 4 SOUR - HIBI NO NEIRO This Japanese band could give OK Go a run for their money. The highly co-ordinated video was edited from webcam footage shot by a global fan base into a mind-blowing graphic display. People seem to interact with each other's screens; it's like social networking remade as pop art. 5 ARCADE FIRE - THE WILDERNESS DOWNTOWN Interactive online experience that turns your home town into the backdrop for We Used To Wait via Google Maps; so good you hardly notice it doubles as a demo for Google Chrome and the zippy hi-tech possibilities offered by new web language HTML5. 6 CEE-LO - FUCK YOU A lesson in modern memes. First, Cee-Lo's tune pops up on YouTube with just the lyrics. Then, the song takes on a life of its own, with re-edits dropping the song at inappropriate moments into everything from The Shawshank Redemption to Do The Right Thing. Cee-Lo's final "real" video is pretty funny, too. 7 RADIOHEAD - LIVE IN PRAHA Maximum DIY: over 50 Czech fans shot their own Radiohead gig in Prague with handheld HD cameras. The band loved it and gave them the mixing-desk masters to use. 8 POP LEVI - SEMI BABE Another simple exercise in playing with the form: you have to line up two YouTube windows and get them to play at the same time. 9 PENDULUM - SALT IN THE WOUNDS More video game than video, this online treasure hunt lets you move a 360° camera in search of a code (WARNING! The prize is a Pendulum track). Cache Rules Everything Around Me from Evan Roth on Vimeo . 10 GIRL TALK -CACHE RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME Evan Roth cuts up every net Gif ever (dancing baby/cat/alien) to Girl Talk's sample-heavy pop.
