Barclays sharp with card offer

I am having a problem with Barclays, which started when I called to talk about my overdraft. As we were finishing, the person I was speaking to asked if I had considered applying for a Barclaycard. I was on my lunch break and trying to be polite, so I hurriedly said they could send me some information, expecting perhaps a leaflet through the post. However, a week later I received a letter in the post saying my application for a credit card had been rejected. I phoned Barclays to try to sort this out, and another employee took down my details and logged the complaint. She let it slip that the Barclays employee who handled the initial application should have asked me questions and gone through proper channels, which were completely ignored. I find this very worrying. Not least because I did not give my approval, but also because of how it will look on my credit rating. JK, London We contacted Barclaycard, which said it would appear that the customer services staff member you first dealt with had misunderstood your request and thought he was assisting you when submitting the application for a Barclaycard. He clearly wasn't. As a result, Barclaycard has removed the credit search that was made at the time of the application from your credit file, so this will no longer have an impact on any other credit you may wish to apply for. Can we help? If you've got a problem you would like us to investigate you can contact us by emailing [email protected] or writing to Bachelor & Brignall, Money, The Guardian, 90 York Way, London N1 9GU.
