Old film scores

This is a poor time for settling old scores ( Letters , 29 July). Dance on the grave if you like, but the demise of the UK Film Council is no victory for the BFI or anyone concerned in challenging Hollywood's domination of our screens. The UKFC was always equally attacked by both sides of the art v commerce debate and rarely recognised for its attempts to divine a workable line between the two. Now it is set to go, it is not one or other camp that will win. All of film culture will be poorer for this ill-thought-out savagery. Benjamin Blaine London
