Hunt continues for rogue Afghan soldier who killed British troops
The hunt for the Afghan soldier who murdered three British troops continued in Helmand province today. One of those who died was named as Lieutenant Neal Turkington, 26, from Portadown, Co Armagh, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles. He died alongside a Nepalese Gurkha when the soldier, who also shot a major in his bed, fired a rocket-propelled grenade into a control room. Today, amid reports that the attack had been part of a new Taliban offensive, the commander of British forces in Helmand insisted the murders would not affect their mission. Brigadier Richard Felton described the killings as an "aberration". The attack raises questions about Taliban infiltration. Citing a Taliban spokesman, Sky News claimed the killing of the three soldiers was part of a new offensive called al-Fatah, or victory.
