Why is foreign coverage in decline?

Martin Moore argues in today's print edition that, in the face of less and less coverage from abroad, we need a strategy to reverse the trend. His study, Shrinking World: The decline of international reporting in the British press , is published today by the Media Standards Trust . It charts the decline of international reporting by counting stories in four newspapers - The Guardian, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and Daily Mirror - from 1979 until last year. The empirical data is unarguable, and fine as far as it goes. But the study misses the real story altogether and I will register my objections in my London Evening Standard column on Wednesday.
