Santander bank's takeover blocked access to my online account

As an Alliance & Leicester customer I recently received a welcome letter from Santander telling me it is now in control of my account. Some welcome. Since I received this message I have not been able to access my account via the internet. The bank has now restored your access, sent a goodwill payment of £70 and will pay the £30 charges you incurred while you could not get into your account.
