Richard Bacon: off the menu at BBC1?

A middling-to-outside bet to take over BBC1's The One Show following the exit of Jason Manford – you may have read about it on Twitter – Richard Bacon suddenly looked like a hot favourite after tweeting he had "just had lunch with the editor of the One Show". Stand down, people, because 12 minutes later he offered an urgent clarification. "PS when I say lunch with the editor of The One Show, mean in the same restaurant. Sorry er, should have explained that earlier." At least it wasn't: "When I say lunch, I served him his main course."
