MoD may rethink DII spend

Defence minister Peter Luff said in a parliamentary written answer that the department may reconsider the amount it will spend on its £7.1bn Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) programme. He told told Conservative MP Alun Cairns: "Due to the changing shape of the defence landscape, which will be informed by the strategic defence and security review, the current £7.1bn estimate may need to be revisited once the review is completed." DII is a 10 year contract the MoD has with Atlas Consortium to develop and deliver a wide range of IT related services to its personnel. Luff added that the figure for the programme includes other separately funded projects, "which are outside of DII but on which DII depends". It is thought that a reduction in the cost of DII will not affect core elements of the project, only additional elements.
