Paul McKenna to cure the sick – on TV
Paul McKenna has teamed up with the producer and American Idol presenter Ryan Seacrest to make a new show currently called The Incurables. The programme will see McKenna visiting people with serious mental or physical disorders to try to help them, including a man with Tourette syndrome and a woman who eats her own hair. The Incurables will be McKenna's second US television series and will be shown on the A&E channel in America. The self-help expert's previous show, I Can Make You Thin, became one of The Discovery Channel's highest-rated shows of 2008 and reportedly made him one of the UK's highest-earning television stars . In addition to his presenting work, Seacrest has written and executive-produced a number of shows, including Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution for ABC and Keeping Up With the Kardashians for E! Channel. The show – which has begun filming – will be co-produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and McKenna Media, a new company. McKenna and Seacrest are also in talks with British broadcasters to show the programme in the UK. McKenna has already made a similar show for Sky. He told the Sun two years ago: "I did a show for Sky years ago called The Incurables [retitled as I Can Change Your Life] where they brought a load of people to me – a man with Tourette's, a lady with OCD – and there was improvement with all of them, to a bigger or lesser degree." • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
