London 2012: Volleyball progress report

Podium athletes None Development athletes 36 UK Sport Mission 2012 progress rating Amber Richard Callicott, president, British Volleyball Federation: In the past year we have … seen our men's indoor team beat Spain (2007 European champions and Euro League winners) and Slovakia (2008 Euro League winners), and our women's beach teams continue their climb in the world rankings - including a top ten finish in a World Tour event. Our women's indoor team have continued a path of steady improvement, and we have established a sitting volleyball programme which have just competed in the world championships in the USA, from scratch with the assistance of Volleyball England. In the next two years we will … seek to maintain our trajectory that we have pursued to date, having set up the programme for all teams, men and women, (indoor and beach in the Olympic Games, sitting in the Paralympic Games) as recently as 2006. Our six-year plan to London 2012 remains on track, and we anticipate our teams building to a peak at the Games through a structured programme of steadily intensifying competition and improving results.
