Cary Fukunaga to direct sci-fi thriller Speechless

Cary Fukunaga is to follow up his forthcoming big-screen take on Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre with a science-fiction thriller about a hitman tumbling through space, according to the Hollywood Reporter . Spaceless, based on an original screenplay by Jeff Vintar, has Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski on board as producer and has been green-lit by Universal Studios. It concerns an assassin who wakes to find himself floating through space in a suit that is running out of air, fitted with a computer designed to keep him company until he expires. The last thing he remembers is breaking into a space station to carry out a hit, but is he really about to die? Could he be trapped in an artificial reality or simply experiencing the effects of madness? Fukunaga made his debut with Sin Nombre , a 2009 drama following Honduran immigrants trying to sneak into the US. His version of Jane Eyre is released in the UK in September, and stars Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell, Judy Dench and Sally Hawkins. US critics have praised the film , with particular plaudits for Wasikowska's turn as Eyre.
