Celtic confirm signing of Freddie Ljungberg

Freddie Ljungberg has completed a move to Celtic after passing a medical. The former Sweden international, who made his name playing for Arsenal in the Premier League, will be officially unveiled as a Celtic player in Glasgow tomorrow. The 33-year-old has trained with the Parkhead side this week and was in the stands for Celtic's 1-0 win over Motherwell last night. Ljungberg is a free agent after leaving the MLS club Chicago Fire in October. He had initially been seeking an 18-month deal at Celtic, worth about £20,000 a week, but the Scottish club may look for an initially shorter-term agreement. Ljungberg could be part of the Celtic squad for Sunday's Old Firm game at Ibrox, with the manager, Neil Lennon, short of midfield options. The captain, Scott Brown, is suspended after being sent off in that Motherwell match while Ki Sung-yueng has joined the South Korea squad in advance of the Asia Cup.
