Number 10 examines e-petitions

A spokesperson confirmed to GC News that "the whole e-petition service is being looked at from the ground up", but said it was not possible to provide any details of likely changes or a firm date on when a new service could be launched. A statement on the Number 10 website says the new government has launched a review of online services, including e-petitions, and that it wants to improve the process. It said it is "looking at ways of ensuring that it functions as part of a cohesive approach to public debate and transparent government". The system was suspended when the general election was called on 6 April and has not been reopened. The government has said it will respond to any petitions that attracted more than 500 signatures before the suspension date.
