Bevins Prize shortlist announced

Six journalists, including the Guardian's Nick Davies and three Times writers, have been shortlisted for the 2010 Bevins Prize for investigative journalism. Davies has been nominated for his work on the News of the World phone-hacking affair . The Times's Sean O'Neil and David Brown are on the shortlist for their investigation into the child sex abuse scandal centred on the Benedictine Monastery and St Benedict's school, while their colleague Jerome Starkey is up for the award for his reporting on the uncovering of botched action in Afghanistan. David Cohen of the London Evening Standard makes the shortlist for his writing about the tragic fate of newborn babies buried four to a plot in paupers' graves. Another nominee is Clare Sambrook, for her opendemocracy.net reporting on the detention of children in the immigration system. The Bevins Prize, or Rat up a Drainpipe award, is named after the late Anthony Bevins. This year's award will be presented at a reception in central London on 9 November. The previous winners of the award, established in 2008, are the Guardian's Paul Lewis and the Times's Deborah Haynes. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
