Chief inspector cleared of shoplifting

A senior police officer spoke of her relief today as she was cleared of shoplifting after what she described as a "devastating 12 months". Kim Molloy was suspended from her post as chief inspector with Nottinghamshire police after she allegedly stole Max Factor Age Renewal foundation make-up worth £12.72 from a Tesco Extra store in Top Valley, Nottingham, in November 2009. Recorder Peter Joyce, QC, instructed a jury at Derby crown court to find Molloy not guilty and acquit her because the prosecution could not prove she had acted dishonestly. The judge said it was an act of forgetfulness rather than dishonesty. In a statement afterwards, Molloy said common sense had prevailed.
