Kevin Bakhurst named deputy head of BBC Newsroom

Kevin Bakhurst, the controller of the BBC News Channel and News at One, has been appointed deputy head of the BBC Newsroom. Bakhurst's appointment follows the promotion last week of predecessor Craig Oliver, the former editor of BBC News at Six and News at Ten, who is editing the corporation's general election results programme tonight before taking on the role of controller of English, BBC Global News . Bakhurst, who will continue to handle his previous responsibilities, will deputise for head of newsroom Mary Hockaday and will also be responsible for on-demand services. He starts on 17 May. Separately Sam Taylor, the editor of BBC Newswire, has been appointed head of editorial development "leading on business change and multimedia production". Taylor is a former editor of BBC News at One.
