Peter Kay returns for John Smith's dog show ad

Peter Kay will tonight make his final outing in the revived John Smith's "No nonsense" campaign in a new TV ad featuring the voiceover of Crufts presenter Peter Purves. Kay became an advertising phenomenon eight years ago , with catch phrases including "'ave it", "top bombing" and "two lamb bhunas", and in May signed up to reprise the ale-drinking character in three more commercials following a five-year hiatus. The last of the three commercials, made by TBWA London which also created the original ads, features a send-up of a Crufts-style dog show. The ad opens with a pedigree dog professionally completing a series of obstacles in a competition ring. Kay is the next competitor but when he sends his dog forward it heads straight out of the ring and comes back a minute later with a newspaper in its mouth. "As the finale to the current campaign, Dog Show captures the no nonsense attitude of John Smith's perfectly," said Mark Hunter, executive creative director at TBWA/London. "Who wouldn't prefer a dog that could fetch their newspaper to one that could run through an 18-foot long bright orange agility tunnel?" • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
