Football: Round up of Tuesday night's action

Over in Italy where Tuesday's other Champions League match is taking place, Fiorentina play host to Bayern Munich with the German side leading 2-1 from the first leg. Butt in the Bayern goal, could only parry a long-range Marchionni effort and the ball fell to the right hand side of the six-yard box where Vargas was following up Photograph: Maurizio Degl'innocenti/EPA Photograph: Maurizio Degl'innocenti/guardian.co.uk Nine minutes into the second half Steven Jovetic puts Fiorentina firmly in the driving seat when he smashes the ball home from 10 yards out following an exquisite piece of control by Gilardino who stopped a fizzing cross dead with his heel, teeing up the ball for Jovetic Photograph: Filippo Monteforte/AFP/Getty Images Photograph: Filippo Monteforte/guardian.co.uk Bayern's Miroslav Klose is denied by brave goalkeeping from Sebastian Frey. Just before the hour mark Klose's team-mate Mark Van Bommel puts Bayern back in the tie when he strokes the ball home from 20 yards out to make things all square at 3-3 on aggregate Photograph: Max Rossi/Reuters Photograph: Max Rossi/guardian.co.uk Four minutes after Van Bommel squared things up, Jovetic gets his second goal of the night to put Fiorentina's noses in front again when he pokes the ball home after an excellent Gilardino nod-down Photograph: Filippo Monteforte/AFP/Getty Images Photograph: Filippo Monteforte/guardian.co.uk Just one minute later Arjen Robben swings the tie back in Bayern's favour when he finds himself with the ball 35 yards out and Fiorentina's defenders standing off him, so he cuts inside and rifles a shot past Frey into the top left-hand corner Photograph: Lars Baron/Bongarts/Getty Images Photograph: Lars Baron/guardian.co.uk Despite some sustained Fiorentina pressure in the last 26 minutes, Bayern Munich manage to hold out to go through to the quarter-finals on away goals with the aggregate score at 4-4 Photograph: Christophe Simon/AFP/Getty Images Photograph: Christophe Simon/guardian.co.uk Back in Blightly, Fratton Park plays host to Birmingham City, this time the prize is three Premier League points rather than a place in the FA Cup semi-finals. Like saturday it is a tight affair summed up by this tussle between Portsmouth's Aruna Dindane, left, and Birmingham City's Keith Fahey Photograph: Chris Ison/PA Photograph: Chris Ison/guardian.co.uk Saturday's two goal hero Frederic Piquionne wasn't able to get on the scoresheet this time around, here Birmingham City's goalkeeper Joe Hart punches the ball out of his reach Photograph: Tony Marshall/Empics Sport Photograph: Tony Marshall/guardian.co.uk There was a two-goal hero in this game too, but this time he was on the visiting side rather than the home side. Cameron Jerome notched in the 16th and 42nd minutes which, despite a consolation goal by Kanu in the last minute, were enough to give Birmingham the three points. The win puts McLeish's side into eighth position, two points behind local rivals Aston Villa, and keeps Pompey rooted to the foot of the table Photograph: Henry Browne/Action Images Photograph: Henry Browne/guardian.co.uk Either these Burnley fans live in Sunderland or they drove 85 miles to make a point as the Black Cats played host to Owen Coyle's Bolton. Just one minute into the match they would have been just as happy as the Sunderland fans when Fraizer Campbell opened the scoring for the home side Photograph: Ed Sykes/Action Images Photograph: Ed Sykes/guardian.co.uk Bolton captain Kevin Davies can only look on as Sunderland's Michael Turner, left, and his captain Lorik Cana take part in some synchronized defending Photograph: Scott Heppell/AP Photograph: Scott Heppell/guardian.co.uk This time Davies is a participant in the action rather than an uninvolved onlooker as he finds himself at close quarters with John Mensah as they challenge for the ball Photograph: Michael Regan/Getty Images Photograph: Michael Regan/guardian.co.uk Darren Bent slams home his first and Sunderland's second goal to make it 2-0 in the 64th minute. He added a second 10 minutes later when following a shove by Sam Ricketts, which earned the Bolton defender a second yellow and then a red, he got up and slotted home the resulting spot-kick. With two minutes remaining, he scored his 19th goal of the season and completed his hat-trick when he shot through a crowded area after playing a lovely one-two with fellow goalscorer Campbell Photograph: Michael Regan/Getty Images Photograph: Michael Regan/guardian.co.uk
