Mapped: Leeds' potholed roads cause havoc after snow spell
Leeds people are being driven 'potty' by the city's potholes. A flurry of reports of large and deep potholes on roads have come into Guardian Leeds from the Fix My Street tool on the homepage of this blog. Earlier this week, the Yorkshire Post reported how Leeds council has so far spent £50,000 this winter on 1,000 emergency repairs – a figure it claims is normal for this time of year. Lobbying organisation the Local Government Association has also warned that cash-strapped councils across the country will struggle to meet the bill of repairing the country's pothole-ridden roads. One resident in Farnley, who emailed to report deep potholes and broken surfaces on the busy Tong Road, said Leeds was experiencing a lot of problems on its roads. She said: "There's about half-a-dozen potholes in the road, they're a real danger to motorists and you just can't avoid them. They've been there a few weeks and were made worse by the cold snap before Christmas. "It's not the only place in Leeds with problems. There seems to be potholes everywhere - as many as last year after the bad winter." Since 1 January 2011 Guardian Leeds has received 21 reports of potholes around the city. Map your pothole We've been creating a map of recently reported potholes and other problems caused by the winter weather – it's a collaborative map which means you can add your potholes to the map too by signing into Google and clicking 'edit'.
