Paul Waugh named PoliticsHome.com editor
Paul Waugh, deputy political editor of the London Evening Standard, has been appointed editor of the PoliticsHome.com political news website. Waugh, a prolific blogger and Tweeter , replaces Freddie Sayers, the website's co-founder. Sayers is stepping up to become executive editor, focusing on expansion plans and editorial strategy. Sayers set up PoliticsHome in 2008 with Stephan Shakespeare, the co-founder of online pollster YouGov. In September last year the website became part of a new company set up by Shakespeare and Lord Ashcroft, the Tory party deputy chairman. Ashcroft has a 57.5% stake in the company, which is chaired by Shakespeare. Andrew Rawnsley, the Observer associate editor and political columnist who was editor-in-chief of PoliticsHome, resigned shortly after Ashcroft became involved . Waugh has been the Evening Standard's deputy political editor for six years and before that had the same job at the Independent from 2001. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
