East Sussex launches online historic record

East Sussex CC said the database contains more than 16,000 records, including information on historic buildings, archaeological sites and places where archaeological finds have been found, from prehistoric times to the present day. A spokesperson for the council told GC News : "The database can also provide learning opportunities for schools, local community projects and special interest groups." He said the database was custom-made by environmental and IT consultancy company Exegesis. English Heritage is also supporting the project, making the online records available through its Heritage Gateway web portal . The gateway is an English Heritage project which aims to provide integrated access to local and national heritage information. East Sussex will maintain the online database and regularly add more local records. The council's historic environment service regularly uses its records for conservation and planning in the area.
