Former Opel boss takes over at Tata Motors
Tata Motors, the Indian owner of Jaguar Land Rover, has named Carl-Peter Forster as its new chief executive. Forster, formerly boss of Opel/Vauxhall, becomes Tata's first non-Indian senior executive. He will have responsibility for Jaguar Land Rover, which Tata bought two years ago but which has struggled in the global downturn. Last month, David Smith unexpectedly stood down as chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover after less than 18 months in charge. Industry sources said there had been tension between Smith and Tata during negotiations over a government rescue package.
