Lewis Hamilton hails Jenson Button's 'fantastic' Canadian win

Lewis Hamilton has saluted Jenson Button's dramatic victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, saying "we're a team and we win and lose together". Hamilton was forced to retire after clashing with Button's car on the eighth lap of a seriously rain-hampered race. He had to watch on from the comfort of the race's hospitality suite as his McLaren team-mate Button found himself in 21st position after a series of incidents, including another crash with Ferrari's Fernando Alosono and six visits to the pit stop. In a thrilling finale, though, Button drove through the field to eventually overtake the race leader Sebastian Vettel on the last lap. "Jenson drove absolutely amazing. With all the commotion that went on, he drove fantastic," Hamilton told the BBC. "He put the pressure on Vettel at the end and I knew he was going to get him. I'm so, so happy for the team. "We're a team and we win and we lose together. It wasn't so great for [me] today but, nonetheless, one of us won. As a team-mate you always prefer that, if you're not winning, then your team-mate is winning." Hamilton also forgave his team-mate for the incident which forced him out of the race. With visibility limited due to the wet conditions on the track, he attempted to pass Button, only for the eventual race winner to squeeze him into the wall. Hamilton said: "It was tricky conditions. I was doing the best I could to keep the car on track. I think I had pretty good pace and, while I fell behind Jenson, he made a mistake out of the last corner and I got the run on him. "I felt I was halfway up the outside of him but he kept moving across. Whether or not he saw me I don't know. There was no room for me, no run-off and I was in the wall. It was kind of lucky it didn't take both of us out. I don't think it was intentional, I know Jenson quite well. He would not do that. I thought I was alongside him but it doesn't matter now."
