Retirement looms at World Cup for either Graeme Smith or Dan Vettori
One of the two captains is going to be playing his final match when New Zealand meet South Africa in Mirpur. The question is, which? Daniel Vettori and Graeme Smith have said that they intend to quit one-day internationals after the World Cup but both will be keen to extend their reign just a little further. Smith has scraped together 155 runs in six innings here while Vettori has taken only two wickets in four matches. Vettori is lucky to be playing in this quarter-final, having recovered from a knee injury suffered during the win over Pakistan. Vettori insisted that if his team were going to beat South Africa it would be because of their batsmen. "They will be the key to our success," he said.
