Bronwen Maddox to become chief executive and editor of Prospect
Bronwen Maddox is leaving the Times after 14 years to become chief executive and editor of current affairs magazine Prospect . Maddox is replacing the monthly title's founder, David Goodhart, as editor. Goodhart is stepping back to become Prospect's editor-at-large after editing the title since it launched in 1995. David Hanger, Prospect publisher, said: "Bronwen Maddox is a brilliant journalist with authority and an international reputation, and also has a strong commercial background. She will expand the magazine's reach and presence with great energy." Maddox added: "David has built Prospect into a superb title with an impressive reputation ... There is a huge opportunity for a magazine which gives a voice to the argumentative centre-ground, and asks – and answers – the difficult questions of our day. Prospect can do this with lightness, wit, and a sense of cultural reach and vitality. I look forward to developing its range and reach over the coming months." Maddox joined the Times in 1996 as the paper's US editor and Washington bureau chief, before becoming foreign editor three years later. She is currently the Times chief foreign commentator. She began her journalism career at the Financial Times after working in the City, initially as an analyst, before becoming a director of Kleinwort Benson Securities. • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
