World Cup 2010: Rio Ferdinand leaves hospital on crutches

The England captain, Rio Ferdinand, has left hospital on crutches after injuring his left knee in training at the team's base in Rustenburg this morning. Ferdinand was taken to hospital for a scan amid fears he has suffered ligament damage. The Football Association has still to make an official comment on the Manchester United defender's injury but at this stage it looks possible he has suffered a major injury. Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Dawson – who was in Fabio Capello's initial 30-man squad – has been placed on standby.
