Tonight's TV highlights
Libya: The Stolen Children 7pm, Sky News Any programme about bitter custody battles is going to make for uncomfortable viewing but this one is particularly harrowing. Tracey, Anita and Lisa are British women whose Libyan ex-husbands have taken the law into their own hands after losing custody battles and have effectively kidnapped their children, spiriting them to Libya, beyond reach of international treaties (one ex-husband is wanted by Interpol on five abduction counts). The film follows the three mothers to Libya. Wretchedly depressing, but compelling nonetheless. AM Unreported World 7.30pm, Channel 4 The flood waters may have receded but Pakistanis are still dealing with the devastating consequences of the recent tragedy. Peter Oborne and team travel to a devastated Punjabi village to find that state help is slow or non-existent. Many locals believe the flooding is not simply a natural disaster, claiming that landlords manipulated the flow of the Indus to protect their own lands from flooding, and that officials in charge of defences are either incompetent or corrupt. MS David Attenborough's First Life 9pm, BBC2 As soon as you hear David Attenborough saying the magic word "here . . . " you know you're in for a treat, and this two-part documentary is no exception. He's taking us "on a journey to look for the origins of life" as he returns to a childhood enthusiasm: the study of fossils. As well as his customary globetrotting (how many frequent flier miles has he racked up?) First Life is also filled with computer graphics, though, as ever, it's Attenborough himself who really brings the 565 million-year-old specimens to life. RV The Event 9pm, Channel 4 Event or non-event? It's too early to call as the show is still in the settling in phase – although admittedly there is a fine line between "settling in" and "wildly flailing around and throwing in as many random elements as possible, hoping that something sticks". At the beginning of this episode we are told that Leila will be dead in a couple of hours, but the programme-makers then have to assault us with flashbacks to not only remind us who Leila is but also to make us care about her. And, as last week showed, dead doesn't necessarily mean dead. Come on The Event, pull yourself together. PO'N Natalie Cassidy: Becoming Mum 10pm, E4 Forget the three wise men, the only visitors Natalie Cassidy receives in the lead-up to the birth of her first child are Alan Carr, Nikki Grahame and Gok Wan. Cassidy's brassy narration of BBC3's Real Britain and Underage & Pregnant suggested that she wasn't your typical dumb soap star but this doc focuses only on celeb bashes and dealings with the paparazzi. Any genuinely funny Sonia moments – she decides her baby is the lovechild of Michael Flatley – are quickly skipped over for memories of Soho nightclubs or anecdotes about her husband-to-be that make him sound like a bit of an ass. SR The Walking Dead 10pm, FX Andrew Lincoln has long been known as " Egg from This Life " but now he looks certain to become more famous as "that dude from The Walking Dead ". Based on the comic books, this show gives zombies their shot at major TV exposure after all those lovesick vampires. These are proper, shambling zombies in varying stages of explicit decay and the show has a nicely bleak atmosphere. The Shawshank Redemption's Frank Darabont directs this opening episode – Walking Dead clearly means business, and delivers. PO'N
