Champions League : Matchday five round-up

After Saturday's demoralising defeat to their neighbours , Arsenal's manager Arsène Wenger must be hoping that his team can put that behind them and put in the sort of performance which saw the Gunners tonk Brava at the Emirates in September Photograph: Miguel Riopa/AFP/Getty Images Arsenal have the majority of the first-half possession but are unable to create any proper chances. Here Jack Wilshere is marshalled by Sporting Braga's Leandro Salino, Miguel Garcia and Alan Silva Photograph: John Sibley/Action Images Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboué pleads after receiving a yellow card for a mis-timed tackle Photograph: Miguel Vidal/Reuters Theo Walcott will be favourite in this race to the ball with Rodriguez Photograph: Hugo Delgado/EPA Silva grimaces as he looks at the ball Photograph: Miguel Vidal/Reuters He will be making a similar expression very shortly unless Kieran Gibbs is very careful with his boot Photograph: Miguel Vidal/Reuters The Arsenal captain, Cesc Fábregas, reacts after missing a chance, he had more things to worry about in the 66th minute when after stretching to control a ball, he signals to the bench to be taken off. It looks like he may have injured his hamstring again. Not good news for Wenger Photograph: Paulo Duarte/AP What is that saying about bad things happening in threes? Firstly Fábregas goes off, then Chamakh gets hacked down by Alberto Rodriguez when he's about to shoot from 12 yards out, but the Arsenal striker is booked for diving! Finally, seven minutes from the end, Matheus is sent racing clear through the middle after Arsenal are opened up by a straight-forward ball from deep, and the Braga striker clips it expertly over Fabianski Photograph: Estela Silva/EPA For Wenger bad things happen in fours as during injury time, Arsenal concede again and it's Matheus who bags the goal again. It's a fabulous goal which comes from another ball through the middle, picking it up then with a bit of pace, twisting and turning he gets pasts Gibbs and Squillaci before smashing the ball in off the underside of the bar from the edge of the box Photograph: Jorge Aguiar/AP Back in England, there's a new face on the Stamford Bridge bench as Chelsea's new assistant manager, Michael Emenalo, takes his place alongside Carlo Ancelotti Photograph: Nick Potts/PA With Group F already sewn up it should be a comfortable night for Chelsea especially as MSK Zilina have lost each match so far. However the Slovak team don't seem to have read the script as in the 19th minute they take the lead courtesy of a lovely goal by Babataounde Bello. There's some lovely interplay between Bello and Jez, who play a sweet give-and-go that ends with Bello flicking a first-time finish past Turnbull from the edge of the box Photograph: Andrew Winning/Reuters Didier Drogba, one of the few recognisable names on the Chelsea teamsheet tonight, attempts a spectacular effort Photograph: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC via Getty Images Gael Käkuta stretches to control the ball Photograph: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC via Getty Images There's relief for Carlo Ancelotti just after half time when Daniel Sturridge manages to notch to make it 1-1 Photograph: Mike Hewitt/Getty Images Nine minutes later Chelsea almost take the lead but are denied by a great save by MSK Zilina's Martin Dubravka. Drogba spanks a free kick from 25 yards out on the left and the ball swirling all over the place but Dubravka gets a finger tip to it to tip it on to the post Photograph: Matt Dunham/AP Then with just four minutes to go Chelsea do indeed get the winner. It comes from Florent Malouda who, from only a yard or two out, stretches out his leg to poke home a Drogba knock-down. It's 2-1 to Chelsea, their 100% record is intact Photograph: Adrian Dennis/AFP/Getty Images Over in Rome, AS Roma's supporters are quite excited ahead of the match against Bayern Munich Photograph: Max Rossi/Reuters Bayern's Franck Ribéry goes on a run down the left Photograph: Alex Grimm/Bongarts/Getty Images Bayern's Mario Gomez beats Nicolas Burdisso and slots the ball past goalkeeper Julio Sergio to score his second which means Bayern are 2-0 up Photograph: Alex Grimm/Bongarts/Getty Images Gomez is quite pleased with himself Photograph: Riccardo De Luca/AP However, Roma start to get back into the match. Here their midfielder Jeremy Menez controls the ball Photograph: Filippo Monteforte/AFP/Getty Images Claudio Ranieri must have put a rocket up the Roma players' backsides at half-time as four minutes in Borriello pulls one back before Daniele De Rossi (pictured) equalises and then Roma captain Francesco Totti caps a magnificent comeback when he nets from the penalty spot with just six minutes to go. A very important victory which means they are now three points clear of Basel who are in third, so if they avoid defeat in their last match, they're through Photograph: Filippo Monteforte/AFP/Getty Images Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati keeps a close eye on the ball during their 2-0 victory over Auxerre Photograph: Philippe Desmazes/AFP/Getty Images
