Bravo secures UK rights to Hawaii Five-O remake

Virgin Media-owned channel Bravo has picked up the exclusive UK rights to the remake of US cop show Hawaii Five-O, famous for its "book 'em, Danno" payoff line. The deal is a coup for Bravo as it has secured the exclusive UK pay-TV, Freeview and digital rights to the CBS Studios show. Shot on location in Honolulu, Hawaii, the original show ran from 1968 to 1980 featuring Jack Lord's former Navy officer Steve McGarrett fighting crime across the pacific island chain . CBS made a pilot last year written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci , the co-creators of Fringe and JJ Abrams' blockbuster update of the Star Trek franchise as well as and two Transformers films and Mission: Impossible 3. The updated version has received a lot of hype at the annual Los Angeles screenings of new US TV shows for foreign programme buyers last month and promises to "pay homage to the original [but be] stylistically action packed with thrilling stunt sequences and a grittier tone". Alex O'Loughlin takes the lead role in the remake while Scott Caan, son of James, plays Detective Danny "Danno" Williams. The cast also includes Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica) and Lost's Daniel Dae Kim. The show will launch in the US and UK in the autumn. "Hawaii Five-O was the standout show at this year's LA Screenings and securing it exclusively for UK audiences demonstrates yet again Bravo's commitment to owning the very best in primetime US dramas," said Amy Barham, Virgin Media TV's head of acquisitions. Bravo is currently showing another high-profile US import, Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Last week Virgin Media Television signed an exclusive deal with Katie Price to make shows for Bravo and sister channel Living . The channel is being bought by BSkyB along with Virgin Media's other TV networks , including Living and Virgin 1, for £160m.
