Noel Gallagher: 'I am not recording new stuff'

Noel Gallagher hasn't "even started" his first solo record, he revealed this week, despite a claim by his brother Liam that he "swiped" material from unreleased Oasis sessions . A year and a half after leaving Oasis, Noel seems in no rush to compete with Liam's Beady Eye . "If anything comes out," he said, "it'll be later rather than sooner." If Noel sounds ambivalent, Liam certainly did not when he levelled accusations against his brother in January. "I've heard his fucking new record 'cos I fucking sung on half of it," Liam told Uncut. "When I was in America for [2008 Oasis album] Dig Out Your Soul, he swiped some [songs] off because he obviously knew he wanted to do a solo album ... Fucking nonsense." Weeks later, Noel hasn't bothered denying Liam's claims about his album because there's apparently no album to deny. "I am not recording new stuff, not just yet," Noel said yesterday on Talksport . "It'll be out when it's finished I guess. Well, I've not even started it, so I don't know." Gallagher's comments contradict a remark by the Last Shadow Puppets' Miles Kane, who said he had recorded some guitar for Noel's solo work . Kane may have been referring to demos. Former Oasis manager Alan McGee is among those who claim to have heard Gallagher's solo material, calling it "as good as" Live Forever or Don't Look Back in Anger. "[Noel] knows what he's got up his sleeve," McGee said in November. "[The] demos are absolutely amazing." Liam's first post-Oasis album, Beady Eye's Different Gear Still Speeding, is out on 28 February.
