Luke Campbell
Progress towards 2012 I'm in a good place at the moment - being the No1 fighter at my weight in Team GB, I couldn't ask for anything more right now. I'm taking it one step at a time, not thinking too far ahead towards London 2012 and listening to my coaches to get better and better. There are always improvements to make, no boxer in the world does everything right. We're not changing anything specific with the Games in mind, everything seems to be coming together well. A highlight of my career so far was winning the 2008 European Championships in Liverpool, being the first Englishman to do it in 47 years. I split a tendon in my right hand on a training camp in Kazakhstan and was out for a year, but after the operation I came back and won gold at the Bocskai Tournament in Hungry earlier this month. I'm strong mentally and I'm confident I can beat anyone out there. I've just got to stay focused and keep training hard. Training It will be same as for any major tournament; you focus on key exercises like sparring, bag-work, pad-work and running. Obviously the intensity increases with bigger tournaments and greater competition. I'll keep training as I have been. There's no need to change anything if you're winning. If it's not broken, why fix it?
